Jan Berriman (YWCA Victoria)

YWCA Victoria

Jan has been in her current role with YWCA Victoria for nearly three years where she has lead the organisation in the development of a financially sustainable business model for the parent and subsidiary companies. The YWCA is a unique women led organisation that has been entrepreneurial before it was cool to be so. With over 135 years of experience managing hotels, for profit businesses and housing for women across Victoria the organisation is now embarking on a pilot, profit for purpose, housing development.

Jan’s experience over the past twenty years has been at executive level within not for profit organisations and has worked in remote, rural and inner urban context developing, owning and managing affordable housing, to those most disadvantaged within the community.

Her experience in mergers, acquisitions and development of multi-use housing projects in the highest land value areas in Victoria along-side her experience in Central Australia leading and developing an aboriginal corporation is unique.  These experiences have developed Jan’s leadership style, knowledge in financing, partnerships and ability to negotiate with the ‘top end of town’ or with a remote aboriginal community who meet under ‘gumtree 21’ at Amooguna.

Her strength in negotiation was demonstrated with Australia’s first affordable housing project within a mixed use development in Docklands, in partnership with LendLease Developments, 3 State Government Departments and the Nab. Jan believes that sustainable communities are achievable through working in partnership across all sectors, cultures and social spheres.
